The Super Eagles of Nigeria were in
total shock as Sudan scaled through with a confident display in group A Africa
Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday night.
Sudan, who was at home managed to
hold the African champion as they defended all through and went on
counter-attack when given the chance.
This tactical decision, probably from
the Sudanese coach, materialized in the 42 minutes with a nice header from
Babeker that edged through Vincent Enyeama into the net despite having a hand
on the ball. The Sudanese side managed to get first win off the Super Eagles in
this year’s AFCON qualifier.
The Super Eagles were totally
frustrated with coordinated defensive display from Sudan as they lacked the creativity
to break the Sudanese. It was a poor game from the West Africans and they
lacked clear cut chances with the only decisive chance coming as an offside
goal from John Obi Mikel. Nigeria is yet to win a match in the qualifier as
they remain bottom in the group table with one point.
Also in group A, Bafana Bafana of South
Africa came out with a surprise victory away from home as they defeated Congo
2-0 climbing to the top of group A with 7 points. South Africa remains unbeaten
with 2wins and a draw as they succeeded with another clean sheet.
Goals came in from Bongani Ndulula and Tokelo
Rantie.
